The sweet walrus, Obie, died Wednesday in the care of Sea World, leaving them with one walrus. It will be a couple of weeks before a necropsy will reveal what took poor Obie away. But, there's some suspicion on what caused him to die so young.
About a month before his death, he had been struggling with some gastrointestinal problems. He reportedly was having trouble digesting food and suffered from weight loss. During this time, veterinarians kept on eye on his blood.
Before being captured, Obie hadn't lived a very easy life. When he was a calf, his mother abandoned him on a beach in Alaska where he was found and taken to a rehab center in Washington. After being at the rehab center for a while, he was transferred to Sea World.
In 2014, Dr. Heather Rally made a visit to Sea World and observed that Obie was suffering from blindness and physiological distress.
At this time, there is not much information since he only died so recently, check back here for updates on this story as they come.
